| | Cold As Ice - MOP | ] | Okay, I have a confession: when I first read the first book of the series, I fell completely in love with Edward. I KNOW, HOW COULD I BE SO STUPID? But this was before I read the other three books, and even though the whole "I-totally-watch-you-while-you-sleep" thing is creepy, I still thought Edward was pretty cool. But like I said, I HADN'T READ THE OTHER BOOKS YET. AND WHEN I DID, MY WHOLE OPINION OF HIM CHANGED. Here's why.
So, New Moon is where we realize how very ineffectual Bella is and how she's embarrassingly co-dependent on Edward. Talk about a step backward for women's independence. Bella exists for nothing other than to love Edward. When Edward leaves her, she ditches her friends and goes into a grand mal funk that needed some professional help. Her only outlet is leading on her one friend Jacob. She demands that he be around her all the time, but makes it clear that he's only second fiddle in her book. Meanwhile, she takes to trying to kill herself to get a hallucination of Edward to show up and mope in front of her. She gets a bit more interest in Jacob when she realizes he's a werewolf. But right when Jacob's gone all magical and stands a chance, Alice comes back to tell Bella that Edward is ALSO going to kill himself in the glitteriest, most emo way possible. So off Bella runs, leaving Jacob to explain to her dad why she needs an ankle monitor. She barely saves Edward from death by glitter, but then she has to face off with the vampire royalty who only let her go when she promises to become a vampire. And then everyone goes home to whine some more.
Bella is a miserable human. She has no value other than Edward. I found it particularly creepy that she cut herself out of pictures of her and Edward. She has no intrensic use other than to put Edward in danger. And while it might be somehow romantic to have a guy who can't go on without you, I would rather have a guy who has value and use outside of me and honestly COULD go on without me. I want a partnership, not an enslavement on either side.
Robert Pattinson's acting I didn't mind too much in the first movie, but in this one all he did was act like he had indegestion. He had no mode of speaking other than emo pained whisper. When he kisses Bella he looks like he might vomit. Stewart still can't act her way out of a paper sack. This leaves poor little Taylor Lautner with the task of trying valiantly to actually act. He's not terribly bad for a young thing and at least he has some emotion other than mope.
That all being said, I would have chosen Jacob hands down. Sure he's a boy in a lot of ways when the story starts, but he has the makings of a GOOD man. He's alpha, is willing to put himself at risk for those he cares about, and more importantly, he has value outside of Bella. When she finally kicks him to the curb, he doesn't go emo and try to kill himself in some fancy method, he mans up and moves on. You know, LIKE HEALTHY PEOPLE DO. Jacob's just a sweet guy, the boy next door who anyone would be lucky to get. He does the picking up of the pieces that Edward leaves behind and he does it rather graciously. What isn't to like about this guy? He's even a built in heater on a cold night, which is rather appealing. Sure there are some rage issues, but Edward has some killing you issues that he can't seem to get over. Better yet, Jacob tends to try to let Bella make up her mind on her own (probably a bad idea, considering it's Bella) rather than try to force her this way and that like Edward does. Apparently Bella wants a man who does the thinking for her though.
Anyway, it's finally Thanksgiving break, and I have six days of freedom at my feet? Whatever shall I do with myself, other than watch lots of football with Dad and John and stuff myself silly at Thanksgiving dinner? Ooo, I'd like to catch a couple of movies, as I hear there are good ones out. I need to get myself down to D.C. to the National Gallery of Art sometime soon so I can start writing my Art Appreciation paper. Most importantly, I think we're all in need of some "hanging out with the girlfriends" time. We'll see. |

| | Green Light - John Legend | ] | Well, actually it's two people and they are: BRADLEY AND COLIN.
HERE'S WHY:
"Well, you'd think spending so much time in Wales I'd be able to do a really good Welsh accent? If you're thinking that you'd be wrong. The only thing I can say in a Welsh accent - and it's not even a Welsh word - is RATATOUILLE." *giggles* Seriously, Colin, you are too cute for words---don't ever change.
Three reasons why Colin is awesome: 1. He loves theater, does theater, and is awesome at it apparently. 2. He's all for blooper reels. 3. He likes Monty Python. OH. YEAH.
"If you're a girl, you'll get a guy going 'Oh what, theater? Come on…' Just drag him along because while outwardly he'll be, 'I can't believe I'm here, watching a play'. But inwardly he'll be like, 'Oh my God, this is the greatest thing I've ever seen in my life, but I can't really admit to it because I'll betray my manly exterior.'" HA. YES. And the David Bowie impression? Priceless.
Three reasons why Bradley is awesome: 1. His favorite movie as a kid was Labyrinth. 2. He'd like to play Mercutio. 3. He likes to play with his sword.
ANYWAY. MOVING ON. So, my Aunt Judy calls last night and she Mom start talking about whatever middle-aged women talk about. Then, Mom calls me over because my six-year-old cousin, Caroline, wanted to talk to me. A word of note: CAROLINE IS SO CUTE AND SAYS THE FUNNIEST STUFF. Here's what she said last night:
Caroline: Hey Elizabeth! Me: Hey Caroline. Caroline: Guess what I want to be? Me: What? Caroline: A lunch lady! Me: ...a lunch lady? Caroline: Mmhm, I think it's cool with all the big ovens n' stuff. Me: *is trying not to giggle* I'm sure it is. Caroline: I know all their names, too. Me: Really now? Caroline: Yep. Tildie, Rosario, Bessie, and Mrs. McGuire works the register.
*cracks up* Seriously, she is such a little stalker! Caroline remembers EVERYTHING. She even has a crush on her gym teacher, Coach Myers. Honestly, she is the funniest thing ever.
Soooooo, I have an Anthropology paper that's due on Tuesday. I should probably start writing that soon. |

Yes, I'm done now. Daddy's on the way home now since he had his gallbladder taken out this morning. He's not driving, mind you, Mom is.
Up, speak of the devil, they just walked in the door.
SORRY! I had to run off for a minute, since Daddy needed to get his pajama pants from the dryer. MY DAD IS SO. TRIPPED. OUT.
Me: *walks to the basement door where Daddy is standing* Here you go, Dad. Dad: *is already falling asleep standing up, like a horse, and doesn't hear me* Me: *takes Dad's hand and puts the pajama bottoms in his hand* Dad: *jerks awake* Oh, thank you, Sis. | | Hate On Me - Glee | ] | Dear Crazy Catholic/Christian Charities in the D.C./Metro area,
STOP. THIS. INSANITY. Come on now, guys. Don't threaten to pull out your charities from the area just because D.C. might pass a bill okaying same sex marriage. Have your guys read a copy of the Constitution lately? We have a little something called separation of church and state, perhaps you've heard of it. What is said at Mass or any other Sunday church services had nothing to do with this new bill.
Besides, what the hell are we supposed to do with all the children and other unfortunate people that all of you have so wonderfully taken care of? Who cares if the couple adopting a child is a heterosexual or a homosexual couple? Shouldn't the only thing that matter be that the child is going into the care of a stable, loving, caring environment, regardless of sexual orientation? Really, shouldn't it? Do you see why it's sometimes hard for me to identify myself as a Christian? This attitude is ridiculous. I love my religion, but being the very liberal-minded and idealistic individual that I am, I believe my religion does have the ability to overcome this prejudice we have. But until you all start adopting an open-minded state of mind, the Christian side of you needs to suck it up and get with the 21st century. If need be, just ignore the bill and keep up with your wonderful charities. and focus on that solely.
No love, Me
*deep breath* Anyway, as if that wasn't enough to get me on my political soap box, I also had a tiring day at school. I turned in the hardest essay I've had to write for English, AND I just took the hardest Art test ever. F.M. L. |

| | Pretty Baby - Vanessa Carlton | ] | In an effort to make myself useful, I volunteered to help out at the book fair at Mom's school. Honestly, it wasn't bad at all. I was surrounded by children and books---really, what more could I ask for?
The classes didn't officially start coming in until 11:00, so before that, I helped Mom move from classroom to classroom to teach. The thing that I love about South Lake---other than the kids---is the other staff members. They're all so friendly and funny, some of them really quirky, but that's what makes the school so fascinating to me. However, if another person tells me that I look exactly like my mother one more time, I will rudely say, "Yes, I KNOW." They've already told me this a thousand times already.
But of course, the best part of the day was the kids. Surprisingly, they were all pretty excited about picking out books. Some of them were SO FUNNY, sounding vaguely like adults when they said things like, "I don't know, this book is kinda pricey." Seriously, guys, it was adorable.
Fortunately, I also found a little something for myself as well. The book is called Fairest, and it's written by the same lady who wrote Ella Enchanted. If you couldn't tell by the title, but Fairest is her version of Snow White. As much as I loved Ella Enchanted, Fairest was TEN TIMES better! The part where Aza, the main character, steps inside the vain queen's magic mirror was SO CREEPY. I was reminded of Coraline in that part, with the mirror trying to manipulate Aza by saying, "You were ugly as can be, but look! Now you're beautiful, the fairest one of all. Now YOU can rule over that silly, vain Queen Ivi." Yeah, really creepy.
But then there was the Prince. Listen to this description of his appearance, "He was handsome, veru handsome, but with overlarge ears. I liked those ears. They were charming. They were whimsical..."
...Um, tell me why Colin Morgan's face appeared in my mind when I first read that that sentence? God, I'm weird.
But the Prince's name is Ijori. IJORI. Seriously, do you have a twin brother who wasn't revealed in the story. If so, I will seduce...I mean, CHARM him into becoming my husband, or at the very least, my live-in boyfriend. TEALLY. HE WAS LOVELY. The only thing that sucked about yesterday was that by 4:00, my feet ached terribly. I have never stood for so long! I was so grateful when it was time to go home. I've also volunteered to help out on Friday, so it'll probably go go the same way as yesterday. Oh joy. |

List 10 TV shows you like, in no specific order. Do this before reading the questions below.
God it was a bit challenging to think of TV shows, lmao.
10. Merlin 9. Glee 8. Lost 7. Family Guy 6. Law and Order: Criminal Intent 5. NCIS 4. House 3. Law and Order: SVU 2. Buffy 1. The Simpsons
1) - Who's your favorite character in 1? (The Simpsons) BART. Seriously, he is the token snotty, fast-talking little brother. And the pranks he pulls are some of the most hilarious stunts I've ever seen. You need to have someone like that in your life or else it would be boring.
2) - What's your favorite ship in 2? (Buffy) Spike/Buffy! Even though Buffy is total bitch to him about 95% of the time, Spike is such a bad-ass motherfucker who really has a soft, nougaty center! Oh, and like I said, HE'S BAD-ASS.
3) - What ship can't you stand in 8? (Lost) Jack/Kate. Both of them are so freaking annoying that together, they're a cornucopia of annoying-ness. Honestly, shut the crap you two.
4) - What first drew you into 6? (Law and Order: Criminal Intent) The opportunity to see a hardcore mystery story unfold before my eyes. Ever since I was little, I've always loved a good mystery, and Law and Order are the masters of it! The playful banter between Goren and Eames also kept me watching, and you know, Goren in general. Because he is so freaking smart and awesome.
5) - Something that you loved about 3? (Law and Order: SVU) Toutouola and Munch, first of all. They're this dream team of paranoid Jewish guy and cool bad-ass black guy, and are so funny! Then, of course, there's Olivia and Elliott who are another crime solving dream team. AND ALEX, THE GANGSTER LAWYER...before they booted her off into Witness Protection, that is.
6) - Something that you hated about 5? (NCIS) I don't hate anything about NCIS. Everything, from the characters to the plots to the relationships and the humor...it's all good. I love it, love it, love it.
7) - Favorite episode in 7? (Family Guy) I don't have a favorite episode---there are too many good ones to pick one as my favorite.
8) - Who's your favorite character in 9? (Glee) PUCK. He's so snarky and arrogant, but so amazing! I also love Rachel because her voice is so epic. And Mercedes and the gay guy are the cutest friendship ever.
9) - What's your favorite ship in 10? (Merlin) It's a tie between Merlin/Arthur and Arthur/Gwen. It's so funny how they don't even try to hide the bromance that is Merlin/Arthur. Everyone's telling Merlin that it's his destiny to protect Arthur and the dragon is always like, "MERLIN, ARTHUR IS THE OTHER HALF TO YOUR WHOLE. HE COMPLETES YOU." Way to make it sound like they're an arranged marriage. And Arthur/Gwen because...it's Arthur and Gwen. Personally, even though Arthur is a bit of a jerk sometimes, I find him way more desirable than Lancelot. Lancelot is TOO perfect---how could anyone be with someone like that?
10) - What ship can't you stand in 4? (House) Um, surprisingly enough, there isn't a relationship I hate in this show. They're ALL meant for each other, if you ask me! ORGY IN THE BACK BEDROOM!
11) - What first drew you into 10? (Merlin) Well, before I watched it, it was the promise of swords and magic and beautiful boys. ♥ And then Merlin was a cutie, and he met Arthur, and said "Oooh, what are you going to do? Get your Daddy's men to protect you?" (and the very slashy conversation that followed) and I knew I was going to seriously love this show, in an epic way.
12) - Something that you loved about 9? (Glee) THE SINGING AND THE DANCING, OF COURSE. What's not to love?
13) - Something that you hated about 7? (Family Guy) Nothing. I love Family Guy and its randomness.
14) - Favourite episode in 2? (Buffy) ONCE MORE WITH FEELING. OMFG. WHAT AN EPIC EPISODE. Oh, and the episode where they all lose their memories! That one is a classic. |

We watched Labyrinth first, and talked about what a creeper David Bowie's character is (and a child-robber! Seriously, he stole her brother!). Then, because I need to get her into the bromance that is Merlin and Arthur, I FINALLY made her watch an episode of Merlin. She liked it! Me and Lydia need to get her to watch other episodes. After that, we went on YouTube. We watched funny cats and funniest home videos and practically laughed our butts off. And THEN, I don't know how we got onto it, but I showed her some In Living Color videos of the two gay guys. For some reason, that lead into another discussion about Dangerous Liaisons and Taming of the Shrew (and how Cruel Intentions and 10 Things I Hate About You are their modern equivalents). | | GoldDigger - Glee | ] | But there's a reason for it, and it's called college. I was cramming in time to study for our mid-terms this week, as well as a paper for English. I had a take home Anthropology exam that I turned in today, and I *cough* slightly cheated on it (but only slightly, and it's not like she's going to figure it out).
I turned in the aforementioned English paper on Tuesday, and I got it back today. When my professor told us that he finished grading them, he started telling us that a lot of people didn't do well because they didn't follow directions. So, I'm sitting there thinking, "Oh my God! I FAILED THIS THING!" But when I get my paper back, I turned to the last page, and what do I see? AN A! With a, "Good job!" next to it. *face palm* Seriously, my professor needs to stop doing that. He scared me for a moment. BUT THIS MAKES MY SECOND A IN HIS CLASS, THANK YOU VERY MUCH. *does a victory dance*
I also took my math mid-term, which I think I did okay on. Not spectacular because it's, you know, MATH. MY WEAKEST SUBJECT. But definitely not as bad I thought it was going to be.
I also have to study for my Art test next Tuesday, but before we got our review, we watched a movie on Leonardo da Vinci. Seriously, that guy rocks my socks. Was there anything he couldn't do? You name it: engineer, painter, mathematician, anatomist, philosopher, botanist---he did it all. He's like a Renaissance version of Benjamin Franklin (who also could do it all: printer, publisher, scientist, politician, writer, diplomat...). Really, it is insane what a genius that guy was. He came up with the ideas (THE IDEAS! He didn't invent these things) for so many modern things like a parachute, machine gun, flamethrower; all kinds of stuff. What made me giggle was that Leonardo had a thing for boys. Not men, BOYS. *giggles behind her hand* I mean, I knew Leonardo da Vinci was gay and all, but honestly, that is illegal. Regardless, I love his paintings. Seriously, I find myself staring at them for like, ten minutes on end. They're very pretty and so lifelike!
